Below you will find some information to help you evaluate your domain name.
There are several factors determining the value of your domain name. I will outline only some of these.
- Marketability
- Name Length
- Brand Recognition
- Search Engine Popularity
- Grammatical value
Marketability
How many words are in your domain name? Are there any hyphens or numbers?
Generally, a single word domain name is more valuable than a multi-word name. Hyphens and numbers within the name will reduce the value as well. For example: real-estate.com.au is les valuable than realestate.com.au
Name Length
Generally, a domain name with less characters (grammatically correct word) is more valuable than a long domain name.
Brand Recognition
Does a visitor know what your web site is about even before they visit your site?
For example: shoes.com.au tells you exactly what you are going to find on that web site.
Search Engine Popularity
Are people searching for the products or services described in the name of your domain?
Again, "shoes" is a popular search term.
If your domain name is at the same time a popular search keyword / phrase as well, your domain name value increases considerably.
Grammatical value
Does it sounds correct, is it spelt correctly? Is it plural or singular?
For example: shoesshop.com.au is less valuable than shoeshop.com.au
This is not a full list of criteria for evaluating a domain name, various other factors will contribute to the value of your domain name. Even a current economy situation in the country will have an effect on the value of your domain.
The .au domain name valuation is a new "science" in Australia and it will take a few months before we get a more precise indication as to evaluating .au domain names.
Perhaps the best way to sell your domain name at the moment is to say "make an offer" and test the market.
